Can you make my lips appear larger?

Unless you have a lip deformity that you are trying to correct, we usually don't recommend overlining the lips. Your lip tissue is different from your regular skin, and color will absorb and hold differently. If the lips are overlined, the color placed beyond your lip tissue will fade less and be more noticeable. As your lips fade, it will begin to look like you have lip liner on without lipstick.

However, many people's lip color doesn't extend all the way to the edge of their lip tissue, making their lips appear thinner than they actually are. Lip blushing can help to enhance the lips and make them look larger without overlining them by adding color to the full lip.

What kind of pre-care is required? 

As a precaution, it is highly recommended to take an anti-viral prescribed by your doctor (i.e. Valtrex). Cold sore outbreaks are often triggered by stress or trauma to the lips and skin and can affect the healing and results. Therefore if you are a carrier of HSV, lip blush will likely cause an outbreak unless you are taking an anti-viral. The medication should be taken for a total of 5 days (2 days prior to procedure, 1 day-of, and 2 days post-procedure). Since many people don't know that they are carriers until their first outbreak, we recommend this process even to people who have never had a cold sore.

Other than that, no alcohol or caffeine for 24 hours prior to your procedure, and keep the lips as moisturized and hydrated as possible for a smoother service.

Will I still need to wear lipstick/lip-gloss?

This completely depends on the goal of your lip blushing service. Many of our clients prefer a more natural lip color that other lipsticks or glosses can be layered on top of for special occasions. The goal for those cleints is that the color perfectly suites them for daily life. 

For clients looking for a more dramatic result, we can always increase the color intensity. We recommend subtle colors for future flexibility, but a more lipstick-like result is available upon request!

Does lip blushing hurt?

With all of our permanent makeup services, discomfort will vary from person to person. Some clients barely feel anything, while others will experience some pain. Numbing is applied to keep pain at a minimum, and service times are kept shorter to not over-irritate the lip skin. After service, you can take Tylenol if needed, and apply a cool compress to the lips in 15 minute intervals to decrease any irritation or swelling.
